I am a Jefferson cluster parent and my children attended Chief Joseph. I have never, and will never, support closing of schools (especially in our cluster), so I completely agree with keeping Chief Joseph open.
However, I would like to hear from Chief Joseph parents what commitment(s) you are willing to make to keep your kids in the cluster from Grades 6-12 so closures will not happen to your school and/or other schools in our neighborhood in the future.
What schools are you currently sending your kids to after Grade 5? Another Jefferson PK-8? Outside the cluster?
We in the Jefferson cluster are all in this together. Our children have suffered from school closures for years. If we do not, as a community, make a commitment to keep our kids here to support and build a strong middle and high school within our community, all our neighborhood children will continue to be at risk of more schools closing and inequitable educational opportunities.
What are the Chief Joseph parents willing to do for the good of all our Jefferson children so that our cluster as a whole will survive and thrive?
I hope you are asking this of every school in the cluster since every school sees a large reduction in capture rates for 6-8 grades. Many parents at Chief Joseph that I talk to are interested in sending their kids to OG for 6-8. We hope that over time, we can slowly bring up capture rates. Please realize that Chief Joseph has been growing quickly over the last few years. It will take time for these larger classes to reach OG and provide the larger enrollment neccessary to support a robust mid grades program that many parents want for thei kids. These larger classes can lead to the stability that OG has not had. Parents that I know crave stability. This is what we saw at CJ and the reason that we moved to the area. Who new the changes to come?
